Frequently asked questions
What type of dance classes do you offer at The Salsa Center?
We can instruct on a variety of Latin Social Dances:
Do I need a partner for any of the classes or private lessons?
No! You do not need a partner for any of our classes. Our group classes have a healthy mix of singles and couples so you won't feel alone during class. In addition, we ask that our students rotate and dance with different partners so that they meet new people and get to dance with other students in the class. The group class schedule welcomes singles and couples. For private lessons, you will dance with your instructor or with your dance partner and focus on learning at your own pace. If you are looking for one-on-one time attention for questions, concerns, and practice, private lessons may be the best option.
I've never been to the Friday Salsa Night, but I'd like to go. Do I have to register, or can I just show up?
Although no registration is required, there will be limited tickets available for each Friday Salsa Night. Enrolled students will have first priority, with remaining available tickets for the public to join each week. It is recommended that you purchase your Friday Salsa admission in advance. $15 per person includes 30-45 minute lesson, social dancing after the lesson and light refreshments.
How do I register for a class?
What payment methods are accepted?
What are the costs of the classes?
The cost for 1 group session(4 weeks) per person is $60. The cost of weekly group sessions per couple is $120. The cost of an 8 week session is $99. There are also packages available that include private lessons and group classes at a discount when combined.
What if the minimum enrollment is not met by the tentative start date and I have already registered and paid for the course?
To provide the best learning environment for our students, we may require a minimum pre-registered number of students for our group classes and workshops. If the minimum is not met by the enrollment deadline, the start may be delayed, rescheduled or cancelled. Pre-paid students will be notified of the change via email. Reimbursements will be made if the pre-paid student cannot commit to the new rescheduled date AND has notified us in writing within 1 week prior to the tentative start rescheduled date. However, once the class has started please adhere to the CANCELLATION POLICY below.
What is your cancellation policy on dance packages and private lessons?
All requests for refunds or credits must be received in writing through email at thesalsacenter@gmail.com.
What if I have to miss a class due to work, vacation or illness?
Group Lessons: If a weekly group dance class is missed due to work, vacation, inclement weather, illness or family emergency, it can be made up in a similar level or below, within 1 month of absence if available. Please contact us for recommended time and days that are available to request a makeup date.
Snow and weather cancellations:
Due to occasional inclement weather, The Salsa Center may cancel and reschedule classes for the safety of the students. Please stay tuned on the website (calendar tab) or follow up on Facebook to watch for cancellations. Make up classes will be added for all canceled classes.
What is the student age range?
We welcome all ages at The Salsa Center. The majority of our current students in group classes are between the ages of 25 to 65. To insure the safety and atmosphere to minors, anyone under 16 is recommended to join a Juniors class or take private instruction.
But I have two-left feet…what if I can’t keep up?
The majority of our students find our class pace just right. However, everyone learns at a different pace. Friday Practice Parties are a great way to practice moves but we also recommend practicing at home after your class. Private lessons are another option to assist you in understanding and executing the movements covered in the class as well as improving your skills.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes, customized gift certificates can be purchased for any amount or any package offered. Let us know your requirements and, once you have paid in full, you will receive a confirmation by email with a class detail that will be helpful for your giftee. Gift certificate can be picked up or mailed to a desired address.
Can you teach at my special event/corporate function?
What is the class attire? Do I need special dance shoes?
Dance class dress code is work casual to gym attire. Most students come to class dressed in jeans or workout clothes with shoes that allow feet to move and pivot on the floor. Some of our students attend classes after work and are dressed in business attire. Feel free to dress in a comfortable manner with light clothing as Latin Dances tend to turn up the heat! As for shoes, you do not need to purchase special dance shoes for your first set of lessons. We recommend non rubber soles such as leather or plastic (rubber soles will stick to the hardwood floors and can be difficult to spin). For local dance shoe vendors, try Dance Biz.
Can I rent “The Salsa Center” for special occasions and events?
What parties and extra-curricular activities do you offer to students?
Our goal is to increase the dance opportunities for students through practices, socials, parties, and outings. There are group classes offered weekly, monthly and sometimes bi-weekly Friday night parties. We also organize off site events with other local restaurants and venues to provide the perfect outing for our students.
Will you teach School Workshops at our school?
